Natural Summer Hair Care

Natural Summer Hair CareDry hair, greasy hair, itchy scalp – lots of treatments are available, but many are full of synthetic, harsh chemicals. As with skincare ranges, more of us are becoming allergic or sensitive to these chemicals.

Using aromatherapy for a natural summer hair care routine can have multiple benefits. Now is the perfect time to revitalize and moisturise your hair in preparation of the rest of summer.

Hair Necessities

Always use a mild shampoo that you rinse out well, and follow up with a suitable moisturising conditioner. The myth that frequent shampooing washes out natural oils and causes dry hair in incorrect. Actually pollution is the real enemy. Dirt is attracted to hair shafts coated in perspiration and sebum – regular shampooing using mild shampoo is vital for great hair conditioning.

Don’t overuse your hairdryer or styling tools. Over-heating hair leads to lifeless, brittle, dry hair that is prone to split ends.

Blow-drying your hair from wet to damp does no harm at all, but blow-drying from damp to dry can dry out your hair and cause serious damage. Using too much heat or getting too close with your dryer dries out hair further. Use your dryer until hair is slightly damp stage and then let it dry out the rest of the way naturally.

Try and let your hair dry naturally at least some of the time to give it time to naturally recover.

Use a natural bristle brush and brush your hair regularly. Harsh inflexible plastic brushes often snap the hair off. Natural bristle brushes help by encouraging the natural oil from the hair follicle to be drawn down the hair shaft – helping to condition and protect.

Brushing the hair also encourages the circulation of blood to the hair follicle – where the base of the hair is rooted into the skin. This in turn will also help stimulate new hair growth.

Do not brush the hair when wet as it’s more elastic and fragile and can snap off more easily.

Revitalizing carrier oils

Using plain carrier oils directly on hair is an most effective way to moisturise and deep-condition dry, damaged hair. Jojoba, black seed, coconut, macadamia and moringa oils can all be used individually or blended together. These will deep-condition your hair, making it softer and much more manageable.

Hydrate well — from the inside out

If you want hair and skin that aren’t overly dried out, it’s not enough to just condition or moisturize them from the outside.

Staying well hydrated, drinking at least six to eight glasses of water daily will help your body maintain healthier, more beautiful skin and hair. You’ll also feel better, inside and out.

Natural summer hair care doesn’t have to be long-winded or expensive. Using a few good tools and tricks will keep you hair healthy and vibrant.
